The Sultan of Utopia

Now why did I think of myself as a Sultan of Utopia.. Not sure.. It was a feeling that just came on a rainy evening when I was looking out of my window at the raindrops pattering on the sheet roof of the garage nearby.. It had a rhythmic drumming effect, constant yet with a varying pitch..And the whole world was silent, and, with the kids asleep, so was the house..And I was sick and thoughts from work were not worrying me.. Wife was out shopping.. Then I thought.. wow.. this is Utopia..  And me - The Sultan of Utopia..

Now many of you reading this might not agree with me on this thought of a perfect , idealistic world.. Even I might not agree on another day.. Perfection is a feeling that is different to different people, which keeps changing every day, a personal feeling , but the most important thing in their lives. The degree of perfection varies - to me sometimes, it is a feeling of having the best things available - the best results, the best job, the tidiest house, the best team, the world with no worries..

But then.. That is Utopia.. This world is ruled by chaos.. Scientists have even defined a measure to calculate chaos and called it entropy of the closed universe... Why do you want to measure chaos..? How do you measure the entropy of Chennai or Mumbai ? Can you calculate the entropy of the world's political scenario ?

Now here, you would certainly disagree and stop reading my blog.. The more intelligent of you would even counter me, saying entropy is the second law of thermodynamics and was defined to measure the microscopic disorder and hence to calculate the amount of energy stored in closed systems.

I have always wanted to calculate the amount of disorder and energy in my kids..

Recently the amount of disorder seems to have increased and things are moving at breakneck speed..

a. Floods in Pakistan and the Pak government blaming Indian administration for the same..
b. A church trying to burn the Koran in retaliation to plans of building a mosque on ground zero.
c. China trying to tilt the balance of power in Asia..
d. Afghan and Iraq plunging in to more and more disarray..
e. The superbug crisis !

What the heck is going on ?! ..

I personally think the whole world should be ruled by one single group.. It should have representatives from the top 100 corporations in the world.. Now you might again frown.. There are more than 100 corporations.. But I disagree.. The big sharks will swallow the smaller nemos..And finally there will be only about 100.. There will be oil barons, manufacturing companies, automobile companies .. The big corporations will outsource work to third world countries and exploit the workers while the first world populace will have no food, no job and lots of free time.. The arms lobby would provide guns to everyone and within a short time, everyone would be fighting against each other.. The IT companies would continue churning out software that is of no use to anyone..

Now, that is Utopia for some people..

And here I was sitting on an arm chair, looking at the rain and dreaming of getting my hands on the latest iPAD. And my sickness did not worry me.. And there I was ; the sick Sultan of Utopia..

Memoirs of an early life - When the flashbacks start...

I used to think I was born in a train…. Some of the earliest memories that I have are that of the dusty sleeper compartments of the Howra...
